Yesterday, I finally got around to unpacking my home office! It has been on my to-do list since we moved in two weeks ago but I kept putting it off. Every other room just felt so much more important. I needed the kitchen set up so we could cook and the bedroom set up so we could sleep. The living room came next and the bathrooms. My office kept being neglected but I finally found a little spare time and decided to tackle what I could. It’s by no means finished but I feel like I got a great start on getting it put together.
One of the first things I tackled was setting up the wall behind my desk. I picked up the pinboard from Target a year or two ago and love it. In the center is a quote from the book of Psalms about saving those whose hearts are pure and right. I surround it with photos of family and friends as a reminder to pray for those I love and to focus on keeping my heart free from anger and grudges. That’s hard for me and I like having a daily reminder to be a better person.
I also hung up my giraffe from Wall Charmers. In our last place, he hung in the guest bathroom but he never seemed quite right there. I’m going to go back and update that old post with new pictures once my office is finished and looking nice. The faux taxidermy from Wall Charmers is gorgeous so I’m glad I have a great place to display him now. Plus, I really, really love giraffes.
Right now, our guest bed is in my office and I am not sure if I want to leave it in there or not. We couldn’t put it in Brandon’s office because his equipment takes up too much room so it was either my office or nowhere. I really don’t think we’re going to get that much overnight company here in St Louis because the people I imagine would visit typically prefer to book a hotel.
Our other option is to seal it up in mattress bags and store it in the basement. I’m all for that except there’s part of me that loves having the bed in my office so I can use it for blog photos if needed. I don’t really like sharing our real bedroom on the blog. We’ll see how it goes as I finish unpacking and setting things up. For now, the bed is covered in all of my books that have no place to go.
To finish setting up the office I am in serious need of new bookshelves. I gave our bookshelves away when we left West Virginia because they were old and already slightly damaged. If you were wondering what I’m going to be up to this weekend, I’ll most likely be online shopping at Hayneedle and Apt2B looking for new bookshelves and a comfy reading chair (or lounger).
