This past weekend I spent most of my time finishing a to-do list I’ve neglected for too long. I had a vinyl quote I wanted to put up in our bedroom, a chair I wanted to move out of the living room, and a faux taxidermy giraffe from Wall Charmers I wanted to mount. I’d received the gift from Wall Charmers at least a month ago but I’d been hesitant to mount it on our wall due to its weight. It was heavier than I’d originally expected and I wasn’t sure our drywall could hold it without some sort of special anchor or mounting it directly into a stud. As it turns out, I was overthinking it and a long nail did the trick beautifully. 🙂
I was also a bit indecisive about where to hang it. I thought about putting it in our bedroom but a giraffe doesn’t really fit that aesthetic. I thought about my office and the dining room before ultimately settling on the guest bathroom. It matches beautifully in there and doubles as a towel-hanger since it’s so close to the shower curtain.
Wall Charmers has dozens of faux taxidermy options. When they first offered me a complimentary faux taxidermy mount I was tempted to request the deer jewelry holder or a mini deer head. It would have matched our home aesthetic better and would have been really cute in our bedroom. Instead, I chose the giraffe. I mentioned once before how the giraffe is my favorite animal ever but I don’t believe I’ve ever mentioned how important it was to our first pregnancy (and subsequent loss).
When we found out I was pregnant with our first pregnancy my mother-in-law immediately went out and bought a little stuffed giraffe. She said she did it because she knew how much I loved giraffes and thought it would be cute. I’d also planned to decorate the nursery in a pretty neutral design (like the rest of my home) but I had intended to incorporate a lot of the story of Noah’s Ark so I could include some wildlife and giraffe-themed items here and there. The giraffe Wall Charmer makes me think of the babies we’ve lost because it’s exactly the kind of item I would have put in the nursery. It’s a sweet, and sad, reminder that our babies are gone but never forgotten. Even though the faux taxidermy giraffe is in our guest bathroom right now if we ever have a baby I’ll definitely move it into the nursery. 🙂 I’ve seen them mounted in a nursery (the Wall Charmers Instagram shows a lot of the products in use) and they are gorgeous!
I’m definitely not done decorating our guest bathroom. Now that the Wall Charmers is up I’m thinking I may add a honeycomb shelf or other small shelf underneath of it and place a little greenery around it. Either way, I love having it up in there and it really brought a little life to an otherwise boring room.
