Have you ever deliberately sought out books that will make you cry? I’m the kind of person that sometimes reads a book because I just know it’s going to make me
Am I alone in this? I can’t imagine that I am. I mean, I’m sure there are those among you that do the same thing. You snuggle up with a cup of hot cider, a warm blanket, a puppy at your feet, and you settle in with a good book so you can freely get all emotional and embrace it.
9 Books That Will Make You Cry
- All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
- Auschwitz Lullaby by Mario Escobar
- Under the Jeweled Sky by Alison McQueen
- The Paris Architect by Charles Belfoure
- My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult
- The End of Innocence by Allegra Jordan
- If I Stay by Gayle Forman
- The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman
- A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
I finished reading Auschwitz Lullaby just a couple of days ago and it broke me. I sobbed at the end which is really to be expected from a WWII book about children but it was so powerful. I had been looking around through other lists of books that will make you cry but I found that I had read most of them already (I told you, I do this to myself all the time) but I stumbled on Auschwitz Lullaby on Amazon and knew it would bring out all the feels. It didn’t let me down. If you can handle those deep emotional reads it’s absolutely a book you should be picking up immediately.
Under the Jeweled Sky by Alison McQueen is a book I’ve mentioned multiple times here on the blog and it’s an absolute favorite of mine despite knowing I’m going to end up in tears. It’s a love story but it features tragically star-crossed lovers like Romeo and Juliet. It’s the kind of beautiful romance that makes you fall in love then grieve deeply for that which was desperately desired but ultimately lost. It’s amazing.
If you’re looking to pick up some new books that will make you cry and provide you the deep emotional release you need, I highly recommend the 9 I shared above. Other than Auschwitz Lullaby which I just finished, I’ve read each of them at least twice and they hit me in the heart every time.
What are you waiting for? Grab a blanket and a box of tissues and get reading!
