Our Road Trip Playlist

This post contains affiliate links which help support Honey & Pine. Sometimes I wonder how I survived childhood. I didn't realize it at the time but I was a pretty annoying little kid, especially when it came to road trip music. We used to take road trips from Florida to West Virginia every year to visit my grandparents and other family. For a lot of those years (especially the early ones) I was obsessed with Cabbage Patch Kids. I'd received a Cabbage Patch Kid for Christmas when I was 4 and he came with a cassette tape. I knew every word … [Read more...]

8 Ways to Save for Summer Vacation

This post includes affiliate links which help support Honey & Pine. The official start to summer is only two weeks away! If you're anything like us, you're anxiously waiting to hit the road for your summer vacation. Brandon and I had planned to road trip this year but moving killed that dream. Now, instead of a cross-country road trip we are looking at flights or nearby destinations. Living in West Virginia, we have a lot of major cities within a reasonable driving distance. Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Baltimore, and a host of … [Read more...]

I Moved 500+ Miles in 3 Weeks

This post includes affiliate links which help support Honey & Pine We're here! We made it. The moving truck has been returned, most of the boxes are unpacked, and we are settling in to our new life in the mountains. It's wonderful, but strange. Instead of opening my front door to the sounds of traffic and the city skyline, I'm opening my door to the sound of crickets and a mountain view. It's a good change but it's a big adjustment. I still can't believe we did it. It went from being a fleeting idea to an executable plan in 3 … [Read more...]

Hike at Old Mill Park

One of my favorite parts of our recent weekend getaway to Lanier Islands was being able to walk around the lake and explore lakeside. I know that it sounds like such a small thing but living where we do, being outside in the "wilderness" like that is a novelty and it's nice. It's one of the reasons I love our trips home to West Virginia each year. As soon as we got home from our trip I started talking to Brandon about our next outdoor adventure. I was hoping to go to Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park but at the last minute … [Read more...]

Legacy Lodge at Lake Lanier Islands

Brandon and I have wanted a weekend retreat for so long and this past weekend we were finally able to make it happen by taking a trip to Legacy Lodge at Lake Lanier Islands. We didn't decide to go until Tuesday or Wednesday night. We were winding down at home and Brandon mentioned trying to take a trip to the beach soon. We both grew up in Florida and it's been a while since we've been back. We thought about going in mid-May or late August (which we still might do) but then he mentioned the lodge at Lake Lanier. Despite … [Read more...]

5 Things to Consider Before Getting a Dog

This post includes affiliate links. Thank you for supporting the brands that support Far Beyond Love.  I faced sticker shot at the veterinarian the other day to the tune of $403.85 for annual vaccines as well as 6-month supplies of heart worm and flea/tick medicine. It wasn't a big deal as much as it was a moment of, "$400! For shots and medicine?" and I remembered how much I missed the vet I had when we lived in Florida. She offered a VIP (very important pet) program and for $40 / month all vaccines, regular medications, check-ups, exams, … [Read more...]

My Top Tips for Traveling with Pets

Whenever we travel, Brandon and I always make arrangements to take our dogs with us. It can be tiresome at first but once you learn a few of the tricks it's not so bad. I'm talking about tricks like: Calling ahead to the pet-friendly hotel and asking if they offer dog-walking services. If not, arranging with a local dog-walking service (check Rover.com for recommendations) to walk your dogs at the hotel while you're out. Remember to pack favorite blankets and toys for your dog so the smell of home follows them to the hotel. … [Read more...]

The Best Bed and Breakfasts in Atlanta

Brandon and I recently had a little 'staycation' right here in Atlanta for a few days. We needed to get away but didn't want to actually go anywhere. Instead, we chose to stay right here in Atlanta and just do the tourist thing for a few days. One of the things I wanted to do was get out of our apartment and stay in a bed & breakfast in Atlanta. A lot of people think of Atlanta and only think of downtown and the other city neighborhoods but there are still a few really great bed and breakfasts in Atlanta that are perfect for a weekend … [Read more...]
