7 Self-Love Habits to Cultivate in Your Life

'Self-Care' was my word of the year for 2016 and I failed miserably. I had vowed to be less self-critical, more fearless with my heart, and more committed to self-care. I had sworn that I was going to spend last year nurturing myself, heart, body, and soul. I didn't follow through on those promises to myself at all. Instead, I spent most of year focusing on the fear, the sadness, the disappointment, the anger; overall, just embracing all of the negatives.  Truly, it wasn't until I took vacation time at the end of December and invested … [Read more...]

Conversation Starters for Your Next Date Night

Lately, Brandon and I have been trying to be more deliberate about date nights. We are planning them ahead of time, trying new places, and requiring that date nights are screen-free (so you may have to wait for that Twitter reply ;-) ). It's been really great because we've discovered new coffee shops and restaurants, explored new parts of our city, and had some of the best conversations of our entire marriage.  We've been able to reconnect in a way we didn't know was possible because we weren't even aware that we needed … [Read more...]

We Tried PupJoy and My Dogs Loved It

A couple of weeks ago I decided to order a box from PupJoy to try out with my little dogs. I haven't been quite myself lately as I've been feeling a bit less than chipper as I struggle with feelings of inadequacy over yet another year passing without a little one in our family. It's been rough but I try not to dwell on it. I also try not to take it out on my dogs because their poor little sweet souls don't understand my sadness. They do understand that sometimes I want extra cuddles with them and sometimes they will try to lick the tears … [Read more...]

How to Change Your Life in 5 Minutes a Day

For the last few years, Brandon and I have been embracing the concept of intentional 5-minute habits. The idea is to slowly begin shifting your mindset and ultimately your lifestyle by embracing change 5-minutes at a time. It's a long enough period of time for your brain to process that something different is happening but not enough time to create a major disturbance in your current schedule. We have found the practice to be incredibly helpful in helping us achieve the change we were seeking. We have used 5-minute habits to … [Read more...]

A Holiday Tradition For Couples That Give Back

Every year my husband and I choose at least one or two organizations to support for the holidays. It's become one of our favorite holiday traditions. We limit gifts to three (to represent the gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh that were given by the three wise men) and then each choose an organization that we want to gift as well. This year Brandon chose the ASPCA and I chose CARE. I've worked with CARE quite a bit this year and they just seemed like a natural fit for my holiday giving. Not to mention, CARE makes it easy thanks … [Read more...]

5 Reasons to Use CityPASS During Your Holiday Travel

Are you traveling during the holidays this year? We will be packing up in about 2 weeks to head south to Florida to spend time with family 'round the old Christmas tree. We've considered stopping in Tampa, FL (our old stomping ground) on the way back to Atlanta just to check in with old friends and see some of our favorite old sites. We are still feeling a bit undecided but it's going to come down to traffic and travel time. I'd love to be able to squeeze out at least a day or two because at one point, Tampa was … [Read more...]

How to Preserve Family Photo Memories

This post includes affiliate links which help support Far Beyond Love! I love taking photos when I'm with my friends and family but I am the worst about finding a way to actually preserve those family photo memories. I have hundreds of photos just waiting for me to actually do something with them. What? I don't know. I think about printing them for albums but then I remember the dozens of albums I already have and never look at. Then I consider scrapbooking but I'm not really the crafty kind (that's my sister). I could frame them but … [Read more...]

What NOT to Say to Prospective Adoptive Parents

In case you missed the recent announcement, Brandon and I are considering pursuing adoption to start our family. We've made our preliminary phone calls and scheduled our meetings. We've started browsing the case files for children in the foster care system (which we intend to pursue in lieu of private adoption) and we couldn't be more excited. We shared the news with family and friends first and while most people were receptive to our news, there were a few comments that made me cringe. It was mostly hugs and OMGs and heartfelt positive … [Read more...]
