Essential WordPress Plugins for the Genesis Framework

I have mad love for the Genesis Framework. In fact, I only recommend Wordpress themes that are built using it. I've made the mistake of using Wordpress themes that were not built using Genesis and let me tell you, that's a huge mistake that you don't want to make. My load time was slower, I ran into a lot of compatibility issues, and I found myself having to go in and edit the actual theme or design code if I wanted to make simple changes. In the early days, before I had any idea what I was doing, I crashed my site twice by editing the wrong … [Read more...]

Creating a Blog Reader Survey That Improves your Blog

Yesterday, I did a really scary thing. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and pressed "send" on the email that sent my mid-year blog reader survey out to all of my blog subscribers.  I see blog reader surveys all of the time, usually at the end of the year. Bloggers send them out to our readers requesting feedback and opinions. Ideally, this is done to help us evaluate blog post categories, social media strategies, content plans, etc. It helps us see what's working and what's not working when it comes to our blogs and blog growth. … [Read more...]

The Top 3 Websites for Bloggers to Connect with PR Professionals

One of the most common questions bloggers ask when they want to start working with brands is how to connect with PR professionals. I was in that very same position not that long ago and had a near-impossible time figuring it out. I asked blogging communities and FB groups. Sometimes I'd email bloggers directly and ask for guidance. I rarely received a response. When I did, it was either referring me to networks or trying to sell me a course. All I wanted was a simple answer. Eventually, after a lot of research, I figured it out and I'm sharing … [Read more...]

My Best Advice for New Bloggers

This post is part of a sponsored partnership with Nakturnal. It's summertime (almost). The official start to summer is still two weeks away but everyone I know is embracing the season. One of the thing I notice every year is that summer seems to inspire new blogs. Everyone is looking for ways to share their summer vacations, bbq recipes, warm weather fashion, and new blogs keep popping up. I'm always hit up for blogging advice during the summer. That's why I want to take time today to share my best advice for new bloggers.  I've been … [Read more...]

ViralTag Review (and a FREE credit for you!)

Before I started using ViralTag to manage my social media accounts I was feeling so overwhelmed. It's hard to feel like you have to be everywhere at the same time. Plus, in addition to managing social media for my blog, I like to keep my professional LinkedIn profile updated. I also help my parents manage social media for their business. It's a lot. ViralTag has helped me get past the overwhelm of social media so I thought it was time for a ViralTag review. I've used a lot of other social media tools. Most notably, I tried Buffer, … [Read more...]

How to Upload Custom Fonts to Canva

I started using Canva for Work ($12.95 / month) about a year and a half ago. It's been fantastic! I don't use Photoshop so I rely on Canva for Work for my blog graphics, short eBooks, and PDFs. My favorite thing about it is that Canva for Work allows you to create your brand with your custom colors, fonts, and templates for easy customization. I used to struggle so much with creating consistency in my brand but Canva for Work makes it simple. Although, I'm sure it didn't help that I changed my brand and colors pretty much every 6 months. … [Read more...]

Grow Your Facebook Page by Inviting Recent Interactions

I don't think it's any secret that I love interacting with my blog followers on my Facebook page. It is, by far, my most engaged following and I love being on there talking with people, sharing photos, and telling stories. It's a lot of fun and I feel like it's the one place where I really get to know people for who they are rather than as a Twitter handle or a specific aesthetic. Facebook feels more human than other networks to me and I love it. Whereas I use Tailwind to schedule Pinterest and ViralTag to schedule Twitter, I invest a … [Read more...]

The Tailwind Feature That DOUBLED my Blog Traffic (It’s NOT Tailwind Tribes)

This post includes affiliate links which helps support Honey & Pine. I resisted buying a subscription to Tailwind for so long and as I'm quickly learning, that may have been the biggest blogging mistake I've made so far. Before I signed up for Tailwind I had started feeling like I was constantly sinking money into new tools and apps with very little ROI (return on investment). Everyone kept telling me to "give it time" with each new service I signed up with but when you're watching the dollars steadily drain out of your account … [Read more...]
