CBD and Hemp Treatibles for an Anxious Dog

This post has been sponsored by Treatibles who provided me with complimentary hemp treats and donated to , one of our preferred charities.

We adopted our chiweenie, Wilkins, from a rescue when he was only 8 weeks old. The poor guy had been through quite a bit of trauma despite being so young. We didn’t expect him to have long-lasting effects, but we were wrong. As he got older, we started looking at ways of treating an anxious dog. We hired a dog behaviorist and tried giving him Xanax. Nothing worked.

A few weeks ago I stumbled upon Treatibles when I read this review on DIY Dog Mom. I asked my husband what he thought about trying them for Wilkins. While I fully support legalization of marijuana for humans, I wasn’t familiar with the treatment of hemp or CBD for dogs.

CBD is cannabidiol and it is one of at least 113 active cannabinoids identified in cannabis.

After I spoke to our vet and confirmed that CBD is safe for our small dog, I reached out to Treatibles. They offered to send Wilkins two bags of their pumpkin hemp chews. We’ve been through a lot lately and he’s been a lot more anxious. We moved to a new state which brought a lot of changes. The 4th of July brought fireworks and a lot of company. Everything is different and his anxiety has been high. I really wanted these Treatibles to work for him. Turns out, they are better than I’d imagined.

It can take anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour for an anxious dog to feel the effects of CBD. I noticed a change in Wilkins in about 30 – 45 minutes. He wasn’t nearly as clingy and he appeared far less tense. In fact, I took him outside where he saw another dog and for the first time ever, he didn’t bark. That being said, I did have to give him more than the recommended dosage. I was advised to give him 1.5 of the Treatibles CBD pumpkin chews but I had to give him the other 0.5 to make it a full 2 chews before they really affected him. I was reassured that a dog can not overdose on CBD and Wilkins was fine. He was quite happy to hear that because as you can see, he loved them.

Treatibles are preservative-free, gluten-free, and vegan which we were really happy to see. I’ve talked about it a lot on here and we are pretty careful about what we feed our dogs. In fact, I’ve started making a lot of their treats just so we can be in control of their diet. We still buy treats for the dogs but we are a lot more careful about what we give them. We just want them to be as happy and as healthy as possible for as long as possible.

I was glad to see that in addition to being free of the icky stuff, the Treatibles didn’t make Wilkins lethargic at all. He was still his regular spunky self, he was just far more chill. He didn’t bark at our neighbors or other neighborhood dogs. In fact, he was downright friendly! The other day I was even able to work with my home office windows open without Wilkins barking at every little bird or chipmunk that scurried by. He watched them closely, but he didn’t seem alarmed by them. He’s a sweet dog and I’m happy that Treatibles has chilled him out enough for others to finally see that in him too. I mean…look at that face!

I gave my dog CBD cannabidoil to treat his anxiety thanks to Treatibles pumpkin hemp chews. It took about 45 minutes for me to notice a change in him but they did calm him down.
